Mark D. Cooks Bio

Mark D. Cooks is currently semi-retired but using his leadership and sales experience at Cooks Law Firm LLP as an Account Executive Manager. The firm, owned by his eldest son is the second family business that Mark has worked for throughout his lifetime, the first being his father’s business. Mark’s role at Cooks Law Firm is to develop a strategic sales and marketing plan to increase the firm’s visibility in the DFW market. His experience in engaging with clients and the community is an asset in building a stronger firm.

Prior to joining Cooks Law Firm, Cooks worked in the financial services industry for over four decades, with 25 of those years for Wells Fargo as a Senior Vice President and Community Banking District Manager. He managed 11 branches, specializing in providing financial services to retail and business customers. His experience in the financial services industry enabled him to offer strategic leadership in achieving the bank’s vision. Cooks is passionate about helping local small business consumers achieve financial health with world-class products, tools, and engagement. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, he received valuable management and operations experience with Cullen Frost and Nations Bank. During his career, he has received several recognition awards for service excellence and community service. Cooks is a two-time recipient of Who’s Who in Black Dallas, a national publication that celebrates African American achievement and excellence and recognizes leaders that help build a better future for the next generation.

Cooks is currently in his third term as a Councilmember for the City of Duncanville, where he currently serving his second appointment as Mayor Pro Tem. Cooks also serves as a Dallas Black Chamber board member, a member of the Tri Cities NAACP, and is Vice President for the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. Formerly, Cooks served as Duncanville Economic Development Board President, a member of the Duncanville Board of Adjustments, and on the Duncanville Citizens Police Academy.  Additionally, he served as the President of Gateway Charter School of Dallas, Chairperson for Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life, and on the Cedar Hill Park Board.

Cooks attended Dallas Baptist University and the American Institute of Banking. He also completed the African American Leadership Program at UCLA Anderson School of Business. Cooks has two sons and four grandchildren. He is a believer and a member of Concord Church in Dallas. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and playing golf.
