CITY OF DUNCANVILLE TO HOST MEMORIAL DAY COMMEMORATION CEREMONY
Duncanville, TX – On Monday, May 30, 2022, the City of Duncanville will hold a ceremony commemorating Memorial Day at Memorial Park.
Memorial Day did not become a federal holiday until 1971. Before that it was traditionally recognized on May 30 regardless of the day of the week. Memorial Day in Duncanville was recognized on Friday, May 30, 1969, with the dedication of the War Memorial and Memorial Park. The Duncanville War Memorial is a polished granite monument approximately sixteen feet tall and featuring a brass bald eagle with a two-foot wingspan. Twenty-two names were originally inscribed on the monument representing Duncanville’s fallen soldiers from four wars. The eternal flame was also lit on that Memorial Day in 1969 and continues to burn bright today.
In partnership with the very Post who helped found Memorial Park, American Legion – Post 81, and Veterans of Foreign Wars – Post 7843, the City of Duncanville will host its 53rd annual Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony on Monday, May 30, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The event will be held at Memorial Park located at 101 North Main Street. Let us remember those who served.

About the City of Duncanville’s Parks and Recreation Department
Duncanville is an established City in southern Dallas County with a current population of nearly 40,000 residents. As a mature City with rich history, Duncanville has a nice blend of family, community, and business activities. A key part of these activities involves the wide range of parks and recreational resources that serve all age groups. With 17 parks and some popular indoor facilities, Duncanville citizens enjoy active and passive recreation throughout the year.
Over the years, the Parks Department has done an excellent job of keeping an up-to-date inventory of recreational amenities at each park site. Each year the Parks Department budgets $47,000 for amenities in the parks to include picnic tables, park benches, drinking fountains, trash receptacles, soccer goals, bleachers, and grills.
Harrington Park is the only park that has an agreement with any organization for use of parks. The agreement is with the Duncanville Youth Associations – Duncanville Boys Baseball Inc. (DBBI), Duncanville Girls Softball Association (DGSA), and Duncanville Soccer Association (DSA).
