Recreation Center Re-opening: June 1, 2020

The City of Duncanville’s Parks & Recreation Department is happy to announce the re-opening of the Recreation Center. The Recreation Center has been working hard to ensure the health and safety of our guests. The limit capacity is at 25%, members only, with no day passes.

The Recreation Center is scheduled to open Monday, June 1, 2020, at 7 am.
New limited hours of operations will be in effect:

Monday – Friday | 7 am – 7 pm

Saturday | 9 am – 5 pm

To give everyone a chance to get back to their workout routine, the fitness room will be limited to 1hr/day.

New health screening protocols have been established due to the public health emergency related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Health Protocols for guests:

Self-screen before entering the facility, and do not enter with any of the symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Known close contact with a person who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19

Wash or disinfect hands after any interaction with people or components of the facility.

Maintain at least 6 feet separation from other individuals not within the same household. If such distancing is not feasible, other measures such as face-covering, hand hygiene, cough etiquette, cleanliness, and sanitation should be rigorously practiced.

  • Wash or sanitize hands after any payment process.
  • All guests must wear gloves while inside the fitness room.
  • All guests must clean the equipment after every use
  • All guests are not required to but are encouraged to wear a non-medical grade face mask or cloth face covering when using the facility.

For the health and safety of all guests, new policies & guidelines will also go into effect beginning Monday, June 1st until further notice.

  • Bring your own equipment – basketball, water bottle, jump rope
  • Do not turn on powered-off equipment
  • No public restroom access
  • No public water fountain access
  • No daily pass is available for purchase
  • No rental reservations are being taken

Free Lunch for Seniors 60+

This program is available during the COVID-19 health emergency declaration period while the Senior Center is closed.

Residents age 60+ can sign up for free hot lunches, Monday through Friday, by calling 972-707-3843. Meals are picked up at the Senior Center drive thru between 11:30 am and Noon (12:00 pm), but you must call two business days in advance to add your name to the list. Meal deliveries will be considered for special circumstances. Please help spread the word to seniors who might benefit from this service.

Bond Update: Lakeside Park Pavilion

The Lakeside Park Pavilion bond project has reached structural completion. Electrical, irrigation, and parking lot work remain. The estimated completion date for this bond project is January 2020, weather permitting. Lakeside Park Pavilion Timeline:

11/11/2019 – Construction started on the new Lakeside Park Pavilion bond project.

11/20/2019 – The foundation was poured this week.

12/05/2019 – The City logo and most of the pavilion support beams were installed

12/31/2019 – Concrete work was added to the support beams

12/07/2019 – The roof was installed this week.

2020 Daddy Daughter Dance: Beauty and the Beast

One of the most recognized events in Duncanville is steadily approaching.  Be our guest and join us for the Beauty and the Beast Daddy Daughter Dance in February.  The City of Duncanville’s Parks & Recreation Department is gearing up to provide an event that will create memories that last a lifetime for young girls, dads, or special guests. This event provides an opportunity for Dads to treat their daughters to a magical evening filled with dancing, fun, and prizes. Dinner, music, games, and photos will be taken so that dads and daughters have photos to take home.

The Daddy Daughter Dance is a fun event filled with entertainment and prizes. This special event provides the opportunity for guests to mingle and chat with other couples. A DJ will keep the music going and facilitate fun activities while a photographer will work with couples to take photos in our photo booth to take home.

There are a limited number of tickets available.  Please visit the recreation center to purchase your tickets in advance.  Daughters of all ages welcome. Formal dress is required.

Kidsville/Splashpad Community Input Meeting Recap

The City of Duncanville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board along with the Parks and Recreation Department wish to thank the approximately 35 residents that were present on October 17 for the Kidsville/Splashpad Community Input Meeting held at the D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center. The preliminary schematic design plan for Kidsville and Splashpad was presented by Dunaway Associates and Playgrounds by Leathers. Questions and concerns were addressed and will continue to be reviewed in the planning process. Examples include shade, restrooms, security, fencing, and amenities such as benches and picnic stations. Rotary Park Parking Lot Complete

The first project from the 2018 Bond Program is finished! The Concrete Construction and Repair Crews completed construction of the new parking lot at Rotary Park in July. The new parking lot has 10 regular parking spaces and two ADA spaces, as well as two ADA ramps. To prevent erosion, improve safety and beautify the area, crews placed four pallets of sod and repaired the curb and gutter at the park. The parking lot is open for public use!

Duncanville 2019 Independence Day Parade & Celebration

The City of Duncanville hosts an incredible day of family-friendly fun to celebrate Independence Day! Guests can enjoy a parade in the morning, then come back in the evening for a night of great music, delicious food and fun for kids and adults of all ages.

Independence Day PARADE

July 4, 2019
9:00 am

The Independence Day Parade is facilitated by the Duncanville Lion’s Club and begins at 9:00 am on Thursday, July 4, 2019. The Parade route starts on Wheatland Rd at Freeman St, heads west and turns right on N Main St then ends at N Main St and Freeman St.

Residents are welcome to set up blankets and chairs along the parade route to enjoy the fun and creative float entries.

Independence Day CELEBRATION

July 4, 2019

Celebrate our country’s Independence at a family-friendly event featuring live music, delicious food, bounce houses, face painters & more! Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Wristbands required for entry – pick up wristbands at the Recreation Center starting June 10; limit 5 per person and must be 18 or older. Bags and coolers subject to inspection. No alcohol, glass containers, tents, canopies, large umbrellas, non-service animals, personal drones or fireworks allowed.

The fireworks show will begin around 9:30 pm.

Parking/Shuttle Service

Parking near the event is limited, and residents are encouraged to walk if they live near Armstrong Park. Shuttle Service to and from the Celebration begins at 6:00 pm from the Costco parking lot and will run all evening until the event is over. ADA parking available at City Hall.
