- Defense Attorneys Advocate for the defendant
- Prosecution Attorneys Seek justice and represent the State of Texas
- Bailiff Assists the judge in court conduct
- Court Clerk Administrative assistance to the judge
- Jurors Listen to evidence and return a verdict
Qualifications:
- 14-19 years of age
- Live in Duncanville Independent School District
- Attend quarterly training sessions
- Attend scheduled court sessions with no more than two absences per quarter
- Maintain confidentiality and treat all participants with respect
- Ability to communicate with young people and work in a group process
- Follow court rules
- Complete application for Teen Court
Teen Court Dress Code
Court is a serious place commanding respect from all that participate in its proceedings. All persons entering the courtroom shall be dressed and behave in a dignified and respectful manner.
Females: Dresses, skirts and business pantsuits
Males: Slacks, shirts with collars
(Male attorneys are required to wear a tie; tennis shoes/sneakers may not be worn by court staff)
The following are NOT allowed by any participant in the courtroom:
- Denim pants (i.e. blue or any color jean)
- Shorts, skorts, skirts that are shorter than two (2) inches above the knee
- Capris, low cut shirts, belly shirts, halter tops or backless clothing
- Tall t-shirts, sagging or over-sized pants, tank tops
- Shirts must be tucked inside the pant
- Gang related clothing
- Flip flops
- No food, drink or gum
- All electronic devices must be turned off and will be confiscated by the Judge for violations.
Teen Court reserves the right to refuse to hear cases from those persons who fail to abide by the dress code. Furthermore, Teen Court will refuse jury duty to students who do not comply.
The Coordinator or appointed representative has the final say on acceptable attire and behavior.
