The city spends more than 6,490 hours a year maintaining landscaping throughout the city. With a full-time horticulturist responsible for designing and maintaining landscaping you will find gorgeous flower beds, water fountains, plush green fields, and walkways around every corner.

The parks and recreation department also maintains 216 acres of park land and plants nearly 50,000 annual bulbs every year creating a warm and colorful environment winter, summer, spring and fall. People are taking notice. In 2002, Duncanville was one of only 46 cities in the state of Texas to receive the Tree City USA designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Since then Duncanville has maintained their Tree City USA designation. Duncanville has long been known for its quality education system which consists of seven elementary schools, three intermediate schools, two junior highs, a ninth grade campus and a high school. Duncanville Independent School District is led by a team of world-class educators that truly care about the success of each and every student. Preparing children to succeed in a global society is the number one goal of education professionals within the Duncanville ISD.

Today, Duncanville ISD is investing more than $166 million into its school system as a result of the community's support for an October 2001 Bond Program to ensure students have access to state of the art education and athletic programs. The dollars will also be used to construct two new elementary schools and upgrade classroom and athletic facilities throughout the school district. Duncanville has eight Texas Education Agency "Recognized" and two "Exemplary" campuses and its extra-curricular programs are the envy of cities throughout Texas. The high school marching band, state champions in 2002, is one of the most honored in the state and Duncanville ISD athletic programs have a long-standing tradition of success, Duncanville High School athletic programs have won more than 20 state championships since 1975.

In addition to the Duncanville ISD schools, residents and businesses have convenient access to a number of quality colleges and universities including The University of North Texas System Center at Dallas, Dallas Baptist University, Northwood University, Mountain View College, and Cedar Valley College.

Beautiful Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities
With more than a dozen parks, miles of walking trails, easy access to plush golf courses and more ... outdoor enthusiasts always have plenty to do in Duncanville. Families can spend quality time together at Kidsville, the largest volunteer built playground in the world or visit The Dallas Nature Center where they can explore more than 600 acres of native trees, flowers and wildlife.

Golf enthusiasts will find leading private and public Championship Golf Courses nearby including Thorntree Country Club, Dallas National Golf Course, Tangle Ridge Golf Club, and Country View Golf Course. Water-dwellers can simply jump in their car for a five minute ride to Joe Pool Lake, where they will find 7, 490 acres of boating and fishing paradise. Joe Pool Lake is surrounded by four parks that cover more than 3,400 acres of land and include nearly 8 miles of hiking trails as well as more than 10 miles of mountain bike trails.

In addition to outdoor activities, Duncanville has several state of the art community and recreational facilities to choose from. Residents can spend hours at the Duncanville Community Library and Recreation Center, a new, integrated learning and athletics center located on Main Street. The Library provides families, students and business professionals with a wealth of research and educational resources, including a wide range of print and multi-media publications. The Recreation Center has a wide range of activities for people of all ages including a comprehensive workout facility, indoor walking trails, basketball courts, pool tables, ping pong tables and more.

In March 2010, Bob Knight’s Fieldhouse opened its doors providing basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer leagues and training camps. In addition, Bob Knight’s Fieldhouse offers after-school tutoring to athletes and high performance athletic training.
