Q: What is the current ISO rating for Duncanville?

A: We are a class two ISO rated city.

Q: How often do I need to change my smoke detector batteries?

A: A minimum of every six months. A good rule of thumb is to change your smoke detector batteries in the Spring and Fall when you change your clocks do to Daylight Savings Time. It is recommended by the National Fire Protection Association you replace your smoke detectors a minimum of every ten years.

Q: How do I get a permit for a fire alarm, extinguisher system, or sprinkler installation?   

A: Permits are issued after an approved plan review has been made by one of our approved third party plan reviewers. Currently, we accept reviewed plans from Reed Fire Protection, reedfire.com; Excel Consultants, esbathish@msn.com; and Schirmer Engineering, schirmereng.com.  A copy of the reviewed plans will be sent to our office for final approval or rejection. If the plans are approved, a $25.00 permit fee shall be paid in person to The City of Duncanville Fire Department at 1530 S. Q: Does the fire department provide fire extinguisher training for businesses?

A: Yes, we will be happy to provide extinguisher training to businesses in Duncanville .  The business must provide the extinguishers for use during the training and there will not be a fire set for extinguisher practice.  Our role will be to provide classroom and “hands-on” guidance, and use of the extinguisher. Q: Does the fire department have smoke detectors for residents?

A: Yes, the Duncanville Fire Department has a limited number of smoke detectors free of charge.  This program was funded by a grant from the Cedar Hill Wal-Mart store and is subject to end without notice.  The program is intended for residents who may not be able to afford smoke detectors on their own.  Please limit yourself to one detector per household.

Q: How do I schedule an acceptance test, hydrostatic test, or final of my fire protection system?

A: When the work is complete and has been pre-tested by the installer, a final acceptance test may be requested by calling (972) 780-5049.  Please allow 48 hours notice after the pre-test for an Inspector or the Fire Marshal to schedule a test. 

Q: Will the Duncanville Fire Department inspect my foster home?  

A: The Duncanville Fire Department does not inspect foster homes.  The State of Texas Fire Marshal ’s office may be contacted at www.tdi.state.tx.us/fire/fmfsi.html for information.

A: Call (972) 780-4920 to speak with our administrative secretary and have the following information available: date of requested visit, time, location, or fire station requested.  Your information will be passed on to the appropriate Fire Captain, and you will receive a return phone call to schedule your tour or visit.

Q: What fire code does the City of Duncanville Fire Department enforce?  

A: The City of Duncanville Fire Department has adopted and currently enforces the 2006 International Fire Code with the Recommended Amendments from the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
