In general, the Duncanville Municipal Court has jurisdiction for offenses occurring within the city limits that are violations of a municipal ordinance or violations of a state statute. State statutes enforced in the Municipal Court include the Texas Penal Code, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, the Texas Health Code, and the Safety Code. The Municipal Court handles offenses which are punishable by fine only.

Permit & Inspection Services
The mission of the city’s Permit and Inspection Services Department is to maintain and enhance safety, property values, and quality of life in Duncanville. To this end, the city has adopted ordinances and health and building codes that set standards for the construction, repair, maintenance, and upkeep of commercial and residential properties, and for the safe operation of food service establishments in the city.
Planning & Zoning
The mission statement of the Planning and Zoning Commission is to promote commerce and neighborhood preservation through orderly review, study, and consideration of zoning issues relative to state and local laws; consider zoning requests and make recommendations to the City Council; and review all zoning categories and allowed uses, making recommendations as needed. The Planning and Zoning Commission shall act as an Advisory Board to the City Council on planning and zoning matters.
The Duncanville Police Department, in partnership with all segments of our community, provides impartial, ethical and professional law enforcement service through a proactive approach in the prevention, detection and investigation of criminal activity. The Duncanville Police Department seeks to contribute to the highest quality of life through the involvement and interaction of the citizens we have pledged to serve. The foundation of this department is defined by its members’ integrity and compassion.
The Public Information Office is tasked with communicating the city’s message to the public and the media. The department is responsible for producing the annual State of the City Address presentation, maintaining Duncanville TV and televising City Council Meetings, producing the city’s newsletter, disseminating news releases and conducting interviews with the media, and providing oversight of the city’s website.
The Public Works department provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives and works in Duncanville. Primarily, the department is responsible for the administration, planning, maintenance, construction management, and engineering of the City’s infrastructure.

The Utility Billing Department serves approximately 13,000 water accounts and attends to the needs of some 37,000 residents.
