The Building Inspections / Code Services
division of the Public Works Department continued to focus
on enhancing the image and beauty of Duncanville by upholding
city ordinances and assisting those not in compliance with
city codes to become compliant. In an effort to educate
our community about city codes and ordinances, the Building
Inspections and Code Services areas spoke to neighborhood
associations regarding code enforcement issues.
During the Budget Year, 1,613 building
inspections and 23,248 code enforcement inspections were
made with 302 citations issued. This equates to approximately
50 inspections per day, per inspector. Since April 1, 2000,
91 junked vehicles have been labeled under the new junk
vehicle program. Of the 91 labeled, 70 vehicles were removed
without issuing notices saving the city at least $506.43
over six months (postage, clerical, code enforcement, and
court expense savings are unknown).
In addition to the above, the building inspections / code
enforcement areas have implemented a number of new ordinances
like the new accessory building ordinance, parking ordinance,
program for processing junk vehicles, and new storage ordinance
for residential and non-residential. A number of businesses
have also come into compliance with codes and ordinances
during the 1999-2000 year due to the departments efforts.
The initiation of weekend code enforcement activity has
also assisted in maintaining a beautiful city. Overall,
this division is working hard to provide positive code services
to the City of Duncanville.
