CERTIFIED RETIREMENT COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE CERTIFIED RETIREMENT COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE DUTIES: A. To act as an advisory board to the City Council on matters pertaining to retiree settlement in the City of Duncanville. B. To make recommendations to City staff regarding strategies for web marketing, advertising campaigns, and print media promoting the City of Duncanville and the State of Texas to potential retirees. C. To make recommendations to City staff regarding programs designed to encourage retiree involvement in the recruitment of relocating individuals and couples, such as the CRC Ambassador Program. D. To make recommendations to staff regarding methods for providing qualified volunteers and part-time employees to local businesses and civic organizations, such as a database of retirees desiring volunteer and part-time employment opportunities. E. To work with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, and area organizations to develop and promote programs and special events that will attract potential retirees to the City. F. To work with City staff to identify methods for increasing retirement community prestige. Certified Retirement Community Oversight Committee

CERTIFIED RETIREMENT COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
A regular meeting of the Certified Retirement Community Oversight Committee was held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 6:34 p.m. with the following members present:

Staff: Assistant City Manager Jeanne Fralicks; Public Information Officer Tonya Lewis.
ITEM 1: Joe Kyle made a motion to approve the April 10, 2008 minutes, and Ray Dorton seconded the motion. The Certified Retirement Community Oversight Committee voted unanimously to approve the minutes.
ITEM 2: Jeanne Fralicks informed the committee of the duties of the Chair and Vice Chair such as facilitating the meeting. Susan Wolfe volunteered to serve as Chair and Joe Kyle volunteered to serve as Vice-Chair. The Committee approved the selection, and Wolfe was named Chair and Kyle was named Vice-Chair of the Certified Retirement Community Oversight Committee.
ITEM 3: Tonya Lewis presented background information and the overall vision for the Ambassador Program. After discussing the program goals, the committee decided to serve as the program’s first ambassadors to set-up the program and provide structure before advertising publicly for volunteers.
Some of the ideas generated in the discussion included:
ITEM 4: Fralicks and Lewis presented recommendations for contents for the relocation packets which included the Retire in Duncanville brochure; Calendar of Events; Free gifts (luggage tag and jar opener); CD with a PowerPoint with imbedded video clips of the City, testimonials, and area attractions; and discount cards for local hotels. The Committee agreed that a list of realtors and upcoming development projects should be included in the packets as well as providing different formats for the electronic materials to make sure that it is compatible with different computers and software.
The Committee agreed to invite members of the Chamber of Commerce and the D.L. Hopkins Senior Center to the next meeting to forge partnerships as well as not to duplicate efforts since both organizations may already have supplemental materials they distribute. Jeffery High offered to contact the Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the CRC Oversight Committee to invite them to the next meeting.
The Committee would like to review different relocation and retirement packages from other Texas towns and cities such as New Braunfels, the Hill Country, Austin, Granbury, Georgetown, Salado, and Fredericksburg.
The Committee would like to contact Nancy Noyes with Duncanville High School Media Department to inquire about students participating in the creation the electronic media for the Certified Retirement Community relocation packets.
ITEM 5: Lewis presented advertising information on the Dallas Senior’s Guide including distribution/circulation information and advertising rates and packages. The Committee decided to advertise in the Dallas Senior’s Guide and will wait until the relocation materials are prepared before placing an advertisement.
ITEM 6: Lewis informed the committee of the State Certified Retirement Community meeting in Lufkin on May 14, which she would not be able to attend due to scheduling conflicts. Lewis provided an update on the requested changes to the website such as adding places of worship and running a disability filter on the www.retireinduncanville.com website. Places of worship were added to the website but the disability filter was not run on each page of the website because there were not a significant number of disability concerns.
Fralicks and Lewis will be out of town on business during the time period in which the next CRC meeting was to be scheduled. The Committee agreed to cancel the June meeting and resume on Thursday, July 10, 2008.
