FY19 Sidewalk Accessibility Program

As a part of the annual sidewalk accessibility program to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), improvements are planned for various locations throughout the City to provide sidewalks and ADA ramps to provide a walkable community. This program will provide for 6,250 linear feet of sidewalks and 47 barrier-free ramps at seven (7) project locations. Three areas in Greenstone Estates were completed in FY18. The remainder of the program is being completed as the FY19 program.

City of Duncanville Weekly Update: October 25, 2019

The City welcomes and encourages community members to stay up-to-date on City activities and projects, while increasing public awareness of the things the City does on a daily basis.

The City Manager provides a weekly update to City Council of departmental activities and other significant items of interest, and that in the interest of also keeping the public better informed, the City is pleased to make those updates available to the citizens.

FY18 Water/Wastewater Improvements in W. Center Street/Center Ridge Apartments/Center Ridge Dr. Construction Underway

Design of water and wastewater improvements is complete for West Center Street, the Center Ridge Apartment complex, and Center Ridge Drive. Installed in 1979, the existing water lines are 8-inch cast iron pipe and the wastewater lines are clay tile pipe. The project consists of 8-inch water main replacement of approximately 3,100 linear feet of along the current alignment of West Center Street from Cedar Ridge Drive to North Horne Street, approximately 2,800 linear feet along the current alignment of the existing 10-foot water line easement within the Center Ridge Apartment complex, and approximately 400 linear feet along Center Ridge Drive from Cedar Ridge Drive to the Center Ridge Apartment complex. The wastewater improvements consist of approximately 2,500 linear feet of 8-inch wastewater main replacement along the current alignment of the existing six-foot sanitary sewer easement within the Center Ridge Apartment complex.

A construction contract was awarded to Douglas Dailey Construction, LLC, on September 3, 2019.  Construction began on October 28, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by October 23, 2020.  The construction cost is $2,184,136.00.

FY18 Water and Wastewater Improvements on South Alexander Avenue Construction Underway

Design of water and wastewater main replacements are underway in the Forest Hills #8 Subdivision on South Alexander Avenue. The existing water and wastewater lines along South Alexander Avenue were installed in the 1950s and 1960s and are in need of replacement. The water main improvements project consists of 1,400 linear feet of 6-inch water line along the 400-500 block of South Alexander Avenue from East Wheatland Road north to South Forest Lane.   The wastewater main improvements project consists of 1,250 linear feet of 6-inch wastewater main along South Alexander Avenue from East Wheatland Road north to Mauk Branch.

A construction contract was awarded on August 6, 2019, to FM Utilities, LLC.  Work began on September 25, 2019, and is scheduled for completion on March 22, 2020.  The construction cost is $644,047.59.

Spring 2020 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

The city will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, March 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Duncanville High School softball parking lot (on the west side of North Greenstone Lane).  Please bring your driver’s license and/or utility bill as proof of residency.  For additional information, contact Solid Waste Coordinator Leshonda Vaughn at (972) 780-4946.

FY18 Water Line Improvements in Greenbriar Estates Phase 1 Construction Underway

Design of water main replacements are underway in the Greenbriar Estates subdivision. Installed in the 1970-1980s era, the existing water mains are in need of replacement. The project consists of 1,750 linear feet of main replacement along High Ridge Drive from Crescent Lane to Meadow Ridge Drive, 2,750 linear feet of main replacement in the 1700-1800 blocks of Green Tree Lane, 3,050 linear feet of main replacement in Greenbriar Lane from Green Tree Lane to Wind Ridge Lane, 1,000 linear feet of main replacement in Knob Hill Drive from South Greenstone Lane to Beaver Creek Drive, and 475 linear feet of main replacement in the 1600 block of Nob Hill Circle. The improvements are scheduled for phased construction over a four-year period. The engineer’s estimate of probable cost for these improvements is $1,805,000.00.

Design for Phase 1 (High Ridge Drive from Crescent Lane to Meadow Ridge Drive) is complete, and a construction contract was awarded to Douglas Dailey Construction, LLC, on August 6, 2019.  Construction began on September 9, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by May 7, 2019.  The construction cost of Phase 1 is $61,160.00.

FY18 Water Line Improvements in Irwin Keasler Addition Construction Underway

Design of water line improvements are complete in the Irwin Keasler Addition. The water mains are being replaced with 8-inch PVC lines. Water main improvements include Bow Creek Drive from Bow Creek Court to the north end of the Red Bird Lane intersection (630 linear feet), Bow Creek Court (300 linear feet), Bow Creek Drive from Round Top Boulevard to Jellison Boulevard (1,100 linear feet), Dula Circle from Frank Keasler Boulevard to north of Rita Lane (400 linear feet), Ida Vista Court from Jungle Drive to the end of the cul-de-sac (250 linear feet), and Jellison Boulevard from Cedar Ridge Road to Bow Creek Drive (700 linear feet).  The engineer’s estimate of probable cost was $880,000.00.

A construction contract is scheduled for award to Aushill Construction LLC on November 5, 2019, with construction beginning in late 2019.  The construction award is $799,723.00.

Kidsville/Splashpad Community Input Meeting Recap

The City of Duncanville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board along with the Parks and Recreation Department wish to thank the approximately 35 residents that were present on October 17 for the Kidsville/Splashpad Community Input Meeting held at the D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center. The preliminary schematic design plan for Kidsville and Splashpad was presented by Dunaway Associates and Playgrounds by Leathers. Questions and concerns were addressed and will continue to be reviewed in the planning process. Examples include shade, restrooms, security, fencing, and amenities such as benches and picnic stations. Welcome Sister City Guests from Monasterolo di Savigliano

Be sure to give a warm welcome to our Sister City guests from Monasterolo di Savigliano, Italy.    The group of 25 Italians will be in Duncanville from October 16 through October 24 and will stay with host families for the 10-day visit. We will share our Community, culture and heritage, as well as give the delegates a tour of several significant Dallas-Fort Worth attractions and eateries.

This visit marks the 21st Anniversary of our friendship.  Monasterolo di Savigliano is located in the Northwestern region of Italy.

Next year Duncanville citizens will have the opportunity to visit our Sister City friends in Italy where they will provide host families and fellowship for our group.  If you are ever in Europe and need help, they will come to your aid.  They are our extended family abroad.
